Family Lunch Accounts
December 08, 2009
Do you have children eating lunch at school? If so, you need to
take note of the district’s lunch policy. Parents need to monitor
their family’s lunch account using the internet. It’s quick and
easy; go to the school’s website and all it takes is a few clicks
and you know exactly what your family’s balance is. The downside of
not checking is that your account might become delinquent. If it
does become delinquent and the balance sinks to -$20, your child
will not get to eat regular lunch. Instead, your child will be
given an alternative meal consisting of a cheese sandwich, milk,
and fruit.
How can that situation be avoided? Easy! Make it a habit to do two
things. First, check your balance online once a week. Do it the
same night every week – say Sunday night as part of the routine of
getting ready for the coming week. Second, make a deposit to the
lunch account on a regular basis, again making it a habit by doing
it at the same time every week or two weeks … maybe when you pay
other regular monthly bills. If you make it a habit or part of a
routine, you’re less likely to get a negative balance and your
child will be less likely to end up eating the alternative
meal.
If you encounter problems checking your account balance online,
personnel from the elementary or high school office will be very
happy to give you the assistance you need. Just call 859-2191.
Our school provides healthy meals each day. Lunch costs $1.55 for
elementary students; $1.65 for secondary students. Breakfast costs
$1.00 for elementary and secondary students. Your children may
qualify for free meals or for reduced price meals. Reduced price is
$.40 for lunch. “Reduced-price” breakfasts are served at no charge.
If you feel that you may qualify for free or reduced priced meals,
please request an application for meal benefits be sent home with
your student(s).
