UPCOMING LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS: The counseling office has applications for all the current available scholarships listed below.  Most scholarships prefer the online application, thus, just the website is listed .  This page is updated frequently.

 

APRIL:

Alexandria Technical College:  Many various awards--Due April 1.  Go to their website to apply:  www.alextech.edu/scholarships

Stearns Electric Assoc.:  $1000--Due April 1st.  Seniors who show potential for significant contributions to cooperative organizations are encouraged to apply by going to www.stearnselectric.org Three letters of rec are also required.

Diversicom:  2-$1000--Due April 2.  Seniors whose parent(s) or guardian(s) are diversiCOM customers, 2.5 gpa, and pursuing a career in one of the following categories:  Audiovisual, Chemistry, Computer Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Math, Medical field, Physics, Science or Telecommunications.  Pick up application in counseling office.

Esther Moore Memorial:  $500--Due April 9th.  Any Osakis High School senior who is planning to farm after finishing their education.  The money is to be used for purchasing of farming related equipment.  Download application here:  Esther Moore Memorial Application

Pope County Corn & Soybean Growers:  $500--Due April 9th.  Students must be pursuing an agricultural career and be resident of Pope County OR Parent/Guardian must be member of Pope County Corn and Soybean Growers Assoc.  Get ap counseling office.

Runestone Electric Association:  $600--Due April 9th.  Osakis High School seniors from families receiving their electricity from REA can apply.  Get the application from the local award packet.

Osakis VFW: $250-$500--Due April 9th.  Osakis seniors can fill out form from local award packet to apply.  Six awards will be given.

Osakis Women's Association:  Two awards of $300--Due April 9th.  For male or female senior students at Osakis HS with good character, interest in their community, and solid work ethics should apply.  GPA of 2.5 recommended, not required.  Fill out application in local award packet.

ACS Royale B. and Eleanor M. Arvig Memorial:  $750/year for 4 years--Due April 9th. Students who exhibit good citizenship, leadership and academic ability should apply.  Students must be pursuing further education in the field of math, engineering, telecommunications, accounting, computer science, or any of the physical sciences at the college, university or vocational school of their choice.  Fill out application from local award packet.

Osakis Sportsman Club:  $500--Due April 16th.  Open to Osakis graduating seniors planning to attend post-secondary institution.  Preference given to students pursuing a career in the conservation field.  Essay is required about how a true Sportsman(woman) treats the environment, especially animals.  300 words max.  Get application from local award packet.

Osakis Lakes Association Scholarship:  $500:  Due April 16th.  Open to Osakis graduating seniors planning to attend post-secondary institution.  Preference is given to students pursuing a career in conservation.  Essay is required about the environmental importance of protecting our lakes.  300 words max.  Get application from local award packet.

Lakes Area Professional Women:  $500--Due April 16th.  Any female Osakis senior can apply for this award.  Get form from local award packet.

Bill Banke & Viking Sportsmen:  $500--Due April 23rd.  Any senior can apply--download application HERE or pick up a copy from counseling office.

Ayn Rand 24th Annual Essay Contest: Up to $10,000--Due April 26.  Read Ayn Rand's book, The Fountainhead, and write an essay.  Apply online at www.aynrandeducation.com

MAY:

Douglas County Corn & Soybean Growers:  Due May 1st.  Applicants must be pursuing a future in agriculture, high school senior, resident of Douglas County.  Pick up application info from counseling office.

MN Association of Townships: $1000 (six awards)--due May 1.  For JUNIORS to write a 450-500 word essay on, "Grassroots means different things to each of us.  What does it mean to you and more importantly, how does it apply to township government?"  Get ap from office or see www.mntownships.org for more info.

JUNE:

Big Sun Scholarship:  $500--Due June 24th.  To help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits.  All student athletes are eligible to apply at www.bigsunathletics.com

Great Clips:  $500--Due June 30th.  For seniors interested in pursuing a career in cosmetology or barbering.  Apply on their website at www.greatclips.com/saloncareers.html

OCTOBER:

Wendy's Heisman: $5-$50 Wendy's Gift Cards--Due Oct. 1st.  Must have "B" average and involved in at least one school sport.  Apply online at www.wendysheisman.com .

Young Arts: $5000--Due Oct. 16th.  Open to high school seniors and other eligible 17 and 18-year-old artists in the performing, literary and visual arts.  Apply online at www.youngARTS.org

Coca-Cola Scholars: Starting at  $10,000--Due Oct. 31st.  Apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org.  

NOVEMBER:

Prudential Spirit of Community Award:   $1000/trip to Washington, DC--Due Nov. 2.  Must have extensive volunteer work history in community.  Apply online at www.principals.org/prudential click on "Apply Now."  Access Key:  spirit.  

Heart Research Scholarship (award is a full-time internship to work in a laboratory of a heart researcher):  Due November 15th.  For graduating seniors with an interest in health science.  Must apply online at www.heart.org/mnscholarships

National Society Daughters of the American Revolution--DAR Good Citizens Award:  $250-$750--Due Nov. 15th.  Students must have the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.  See Mrs. Arellano by Nov. 1st if interested in writing the essay required to apply.

DECEMBER:

***Seniors should apply to colleges by Dec. 15th to meet the Priority Deadline for many schools.  Avoid missing out on BIG scholarships from colleges!***

Fleet Reserve Assoc.: $1000--Due Dec. 1st.  Write an essay (350 words or less) entitled, "What Memorial Day Means to Me."  All entrants must be sponsored by an FRA member or branch.  Pick up entry form in the office.

AXA Achievement Scholarship: : Starting at $10,000--Due Dec. 15th.  Apply online at www.axa-achievement.com.  For students who set and reach ambitious goals, demonstrate drive, determination and ability to succeed in college and who have respect for self, family and community.

JANUARY:

Washington Crossing Foundation: $1000-$7500--Due Jan. 15th.  History Buff?  Enjoy Politics?  Government or Military Service in Your Future?  Visit gwcf.org to see national scholarship opportunities.

2010 MN Benefits Assoc.: $1000--Due Jan. 30th.  Applicants must be the child of a public or school district employee in MN.  Instructions and applications can be downloaded from the MBA website at www.MinnesotaBenefitAssociation.org  

 

**February is a great month to get the Free Application for Student Aid completed.  Get your pin numbers (student and parent) and the application materials from www.fafsa.ed.gov

FEBRUARY:

BK Scholars: $1000--Applications open now till Feb. 1st.  Access Key:  BKS  Applicants must be high school seniors with 2.5 gpa or higher, work part-time at least 10 hours a week or 40 weeks a year, actively involved in community service, and demonstrate financial need.  Go to BK Scholars Application  to apply.

KFC Scholars:  $5000/yr--Open Dec 1st till Feb. 10.  High school seniors with a 2.75 gpa who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree can apply at www.kfcscholars.org .

Best Buy @ 15:  15 Awards of $1000--Due Feb. 15th.  Students in grades 9-12 with solid grades & involved in community service should apply at www.bestbuy.com/scholarships or www.at15.com

MARCH:

Power Engineering & JETS:  $5000--Open now till March 1st.  Write a 750-word essay written by students pursuing a career in engineering.  Apply online at www.jets.org

Farm Credit Services in North Dakota:  $1000--Deadline March 1st.  Recipients must be from an actively farming or ranching family OR planning to pursue an agriculture career.  Applicants must be residents of the following MN counties:  Becker, Beltrami, Big Stone, Clay, Clearwater, Douglas, Grant, Hubbard, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Otter Tail, Pennington, Polk, Pope, Red Lake, Roseau, Stevens, Todd, Traverse, Wadena, or Wilkin.  Get application from folder.

US Bank: $1000--Applications open now till March.  High School Seniors are eligible, and winners are chosen through a random drawing.  Go to usbank.com/studentloans to apply.

SFM Foundation: $5000/yr--Due March 1st.  For juniors or seniors whose parent or guardian has been injured or killed in the course of working for a MN or WI employer.  Student must demonstrate financial need.  Download application at www.sfmic.com/foundation

Viking Sportsman:  Due March 8th.  Seniors go to www.vikingsportsmen.org to download application.

Douglas Soil & Water Conservation District:  $300-$500--Due March 15th.  Any high school senior living in or attending school in Douglas County can apply.  Essay required on:  What potential impacts will aquatic invasive species (AIS) have on Douglas County and how can citizens protect our lakes and rivers?  Go to www.DouglasSWCD.com or get more info in the counseling office.

Sauk River Watershed District: $400--Due March 15th.  This scholarship is intended to support a student who has demonstrated an interest in the fresh water resources and who is registered in a 2-4 year program majoring in the environmental sciences or related field.  Get more info from the counselor or get full application packet by calling 320-352-2231 or emailing adam@srwdmn.org.  

American Cancer Society:  Due March 15th.  For students under the age of 25 who have been diagnosed with cancer.  Go to www.cancer.org/mwyouthscholarship for the application.

Kohl's Cares for Kids:  $50-$5000--Due March 15th.  Kids ages 6-18 can be nominated for this award by going to www.kohlskids.com by clicking on the toolkit link. Volunteer efforts in the last 12 months will be looked at, as well as creativity, initiative, generosity, leadership and community outreach.  

Minnesota Women's Golf Association: $3000/yr--Due March 31st.  Applicants must be female seniors with a 3.2 GPA.  Complete the FAFSA and get an application from Mrs. Arellano.

Angie & Blanche Pergol Scholarship:  $1000 to one male and one female Osakis senior--Due March 31st.  Applicants must have a 'B' average or higher, plan to continue at a post-secondary institution, participate in extra-curriculars and community events, and demonstrate leadership, positive attitude, and good citizenship.  Get application from the local award packet.

TLCF Inc.: $100-$500--Due March 10.  For students interested in Emergency Medical Technology (EMT/Paramedic), Nursing, or Firefighting.  Print application print from www.tlcf-inc.org.

SEPTEMBER:  

Better Business Bureau Integrity Awards: $1000-$5000--Due Sept. 26th.  2008-09 seniors can apply at www.thefirstbbb.org .  These scholarships have little to do with grade point average, but a lot to do with ethics.

Questbridge:  4 Year Full Scholarships--Due Sept. 30th.  For high school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence in the face of economic obstacles.  Go to www.QuestBridge.org to apply.

McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship:  Up to $10,000/yr for 4 years--Due Jan. 25th.  Apply online at www.mckelveyfoundation.org.  Applicants must own and operate a genuine business and have at least one employee (even if only part-time).

Mental Floss & Borders:  $10,000--Due Jan. 31st.  Write an essay of 750 words or less about why you deserve this scholarship.  Log onto www.tuitiongiveaway.com for details.

FRED Scholarships:  $1000-$2500--Due Jan. 31st.  Go to www.fred.org for applications.  

FEBRUARY--

The Conclave Broadcasting Scholarship:  Due Feb. 1st.  For students interested in pursuing broadcasting.  Go to www.radioscholarships.com for aps.  

US Bank:  $1000--Due Feb. 1st.  NO ESSAYS, NO MINIUMUM GPA.  Scholarships are selected through a random drawing contest.  Apply online by visiting usbank.com/studentbanking.  

United Educators Credit Union: $1000--Due Feb. 2nd.  Applicants must be a member of the United Educators Credit Union or the child, grand child, or other dependent of a member.  Go to www.uecu.coop or get an application from folder.

KFC Scholars: $5000/yr--Due Feb. 10th.  Starting Dec. 1st log onto www.kfcscholars.org to apply.  Students need 2.75 GPA.  

MN Soybean Research & Promotion Council:$1000 (six awards)--Due Feb. 28th.  For students from a family active in agriculture, be active in the community, and pursuing a degree in agriculture, agribusiness, or food science.

MARCH--

MN Association of Townships: $1000 (six awards)--due May 1.  For JUNIORS to write a 450-500 word essay on, "What is the one issue that is always voted on at every annual township meeting in MN;  and why does this issue make townships distinctly different than any other units of local government?"  Get ap from file or see www.mntownships.org for more info.

JUNE:

Todd County Forage & Grassland Council:  $250--Due June 1st.  Open to Todd County residents pursuing a degree in an agricultural related field, such as Ag Engineering, Ag Production or Ag Business.  Pick up application from folder.

Delta Upsilon--NDSU: $500--Due June 15th.  Any male student attending NDSU for their first year can apply.  Award is based on personal merit and academic qualities.  Get application from file.

James J. Wychor Scholarship:$1500--Due June 30th.  Applicants need not be employed by the broadcasting industry, but needs to be pursuing a career in the field.  Pick up application from office file.

No Deadlines:

The Christian Connector:  $2500 drawing.  Go to www.christianconnector.com to request information on Christian colleges and you'll be entered into a drawing.

Shawn Carter Scholarship:  $1000-$10,000.  High School seniors or college students with a 2.0 GPA or better.  http://scartersf.org/#

Tall Clubs International:  $1000--Deadlines vary by club.Awarded to students under 21 years of age.  You must be tall:  women over 5' 10" and men over 6' 2".    www.tall.org/scholarships
