Silverstreak Softball Finishes A Stellar 2009 Season

    It was another stellar season for the the Osakis Silverstreak Softball Team, as they repeated as the Prairie Conference Champions this past season. The Lady Streaks swept through the conference with a 12-0 record, on their way to their fourth conference title in the last seven years. The Streaks also finished with a school record in win, finishing the season with 19 wins and 4 losses, and a trip to the Section 5A tournament semi-finals. Osakis after finishing as the Subsection 5A West Runners-up, the Streaks opened the Section Tournament with a 13-3 win over the 5A South Runner-up, Ogilvie. Three home runs, one each by Kelsey Proell, Mercedes Klimek, and Sabrina Zimmel, power them to the next round. In the semi-final, Osakis was eliminated by Barnum by a score of 11-7. The loss ended what was an excellent season filled with many highlights.


    The 2009 season was the swan song for 5 Osakis Seniors who have contributed heavily to the success of the program for the last few years: Kelsey Proell (SS), Britteny Wolterstorff (2B), Brittney Hendricks (OF), Kayla Maus (1B), and Sam Massmann (OF). These seniors had provided years of service and leadership to the program and have been the mainstays for the past two conference title teams. Returning for the 2010 season is the remainder of the Streaks team.
The 2009 Streaks were strong at the plate and in the pitchers circle. Proell, Sabrina Zimmel, and Klimek lead a Streaks team that had the ability to open up a in a hurry, averaging 9 runs a game. The pitching staff allowed only 3 runs a game, lead by Sabrina and Kiera Zimmel and Hailey Rajdl. Brianne Giesler was very solid receiving for all three pitchers and added toughness to the team. Tonya Hetland anchored a solid outfield play, and Proell anchored an infield that made some outstanding plays. Depth on the team was provided by Massmann, Lisa Dillehay, Dani Chisholm, Janna Juntunen, and Alex Anderson.

    Osakis was coached by John Stigman, assisted by Kirsten Wessel and Brad Zimmel.
