Providing Mental Health Services to Children and Adolescents
(ages pre-school to 12th grade)
How can Osakis Public School Help?
Osakis Public School has a number of means to facilitate and
provide mental health services to children and teens. Some of these
services have been around for a while, and some are relatively new
to the school. What are these services and who provides them?
Stacy Arellano (Licensed School Counselor) is the
high school counselor (grades 7 -12). She provides guidance
counseling services such as academic support with grades,
graduation and future planning, as well as emotional crisis
management, truancy issues, and overall emotional support. She is
available to students every day flexibly, and parental consent is
not required in order for students to see her. Stacy’s extension is
112.
Amanda Steinbeisser (LSW, School Social Worker) is
the full-time school social worker for all age levels. She provides
support to families and students struggling with family issues,
transitions, managing mental health issues, and family/student
crisis. She also addresses social skills and friendship issues.
Students she sees are typically on an Individual Education Plan, or
her services are requested by parents or teachers. Parental consent
is necessary in order for students to meet with Amanda. Amanda’s
extension is 231.
Laura Radtke (LP, Psychologist) is the
psychologist/school psychologist and is available to students of
all ages on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. Her services are
available for students that are struggling a great deal with mental
health issues and are unlikely to be able to receive outpatient
mental health services outside of school. She is also available for
mental health crisis (self harm, suicide, etc). Parental permission
is required for her to service these students beyond a crisis
basis. Laura’s extension is 229.
It is not at all unusual for people to experience mental health
issues in their lifetime. Children as young as pre-school age can
experience mental health struggles, and mental health issues are
often exacerbated in adolescents. Mental health issues can be
triggered by a crisis, a transition, development, trauma, grief,
etc. Mental health issues include such diagnoses as Anxiety,
Bipolar, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and Depression.
Sometimes students struggle with mental health issues without any
diagnostic speculation. Osakis is very committed to helping
children and teens on their academic and mental health journeys.
Please do not hesitate to contact one of these providers if you
have questions or concerns. If one of the providers cannot directly
help a student, she will attempt to make referrals to providers who
can.
